Women in the Economy working group.
Following an event in May 2014 which highlighted the economic inequalities facing women in the north-east region, a small task group was formed to review and strengthen NEWN’s recommendations to policy makers and strategic funders across the region.
Women First is a partnership of women’s voluntary and community organisations established to co-ordinate and expand women and girl’s support services through collaboration, innovation and enterprise. The intention is that through partnership and collaboration, its members more resilient and able to respond proactively to tender and funding opportunities. Women First was born out of collaboration between NEWN members and the Women’s Commissioning Support Unit (WCSU). WCSU is Women’s Resource Centre’s (www.wrc.org.uk) three-year pilot project funded by Esmée Fairbairn Foundation. The aim is to develop the strategic and delivery capacity of the women’s voluntary sector by enabling them to engage with commissioning opportunities.
