Modern Slavery

The Home Office has published a report looking at the cost of modern slavery in the UK in order to better understand the impact of this crime, and has also announced an independent review of the Modern Slavery Act 2015. The aim of the review is to: understand how the 2015 Act is operating in practice; how effective it is; and whether the legal framework for tackling modern slavery is fit for purpose now and in the future. Findings from analysis of the cost of supporting child victims of labour exploitation, domestic servitude and sexual exploitation is estimated at around £19 million for the financial year 2016/17, however this figure is very likely to underestimate the true cost due to the incomplete information available.
