Horton Women’s Holiday Centre has a vacancy for a live-in worker – North Yorkshire

  • Open to women only
  • 30 hours per week
  • £1017.9 gross per month

This unique, interesting job is definitely not 9-5. Weekends, holiday times and evenings are usually the busiest times. Work patterns vary depending on the day of the week, the number and type of visitors – Friday usually sees a big turnover of visitors and preparing the house for the weekend, before waiting to settle visitors in when they arrive. Midweek can be quiet and good for routine jobs, admin etc. and days off.  Some workers have done specific shifts e.g. early or late; others have preferred to work together most of the time. Whatever arrangements are set up, you will definitely need to have flexibility and the ability to negotiate, compromise and communicate with your co-worker.

The holiday centre was set up in 1980 as a charitable co-operative, by women involved in feminism and the women’s liberation movement. Since then, this volunteer-run women’s co-op has been making a difference to the lives of thousands of women and children from all over the country, by providing affordable holidays with a sliding scale for payments according to income.

If you are interested in working at the house, but have not been before, then it is essential to visit the house prior to applying.

The deadline for applications is Tuesday 27th November, and interviews will be on Monday 3rd of December, with an overnight stay required on the Sunday night, and provided free of charge.
