Government proposes new guidance on taxi licensing to protect passengers

The Government has today (12th February 2019) launched a consultation on new rules for licensing authorities outlining how they should use their powers to protect passengers in taxis and minicabs from harm. These guidelines are intended to improve safety with enhanced safety standards for taxi and private hire vehicles, which will be consistent across the country. New safety measures proposed include recommending councils ensure every driver undergoes enhanced criminal record and background checks.

Violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence indicators: consultation

The Welsh Government is consulting on draft proposals for a set of national indicators to measure progress against the Violence against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence (Wales) Act 2015. Objectives to be achieved by November 2021 include an increased awareness in children and young people of the importance of safe, equal and healthy relationships, and that abusive behaviour is always wrong. The consultation closes on 29 March 2019.

Domestic abuse consultation: Scotland

The Scottish Government has opened a consultation seeking feedback on how policy to protect those at risk of domestic abuse might be developed. Proposals include a new protective order banning perpetrators from their homes to keep people at risk safe. The consultation calls for feedback on whether the police and courts should be able to bar perpetrators of domestic abuse from approaching or contacting any children living with the person at risk. The consultation closes on 29 March 2019. Survey for adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse – APPG for Adult Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse

The All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Adult Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse, has launched a national survey of adult survivors. The survey has been created by the APPG to support its response to the Government’s new Victims Strategy. The APPG wants to provide Government with a true picture of the views of survivors of childhood sexual abuse. The survey explores survivors’ experiences of support services and the criminal justice system.
