North East Fund 2016 opens

Virgin Money Foundation has just released guidance for it's 2016 North East Fund. Making grants of up to £50,000 for one year only there are opportunities for projects tackling homelessness or taking a social enterprise approach to their work.

FGM Screening Toolkit

Resolution has published a new screening toolkit for Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), to support family lawyers in raising the issue of FGM with their clients. Issues highlighted include: a potential victim may only have one chance to ask for help; any discussion needs to be taken in a way that is sensitive to the difficulties this subject raises; FGM is often one of a range of issues that the client will present with.

PCC Election Results

The successful candidates in the recent elections are:

  • Northumbria - Vera Baird (Labour) on an increased turn out
  • Durham - Ron Hogg (Labour) on a turn out of 17.7%
  • Cleveland - Barry Coppinger (Labour) utilising the second preference votes
