Newcastle Women's Aid refuge to close

After over 40 years of providing a specialist refuge for victims of domestic abuse, Newcastle Women's Aid has lost the contract to provide this service. Thirteen Care and Support has won the contract to provide what is described as an integrated domestic abuse service, replacing both the refuge and the independent domestic violence advice service previously delivered by Victim Support. Women's Aid will continue to provide resettlement services, training and, crucially, awareness raising of domestic abuse.
