Celebrate your volunteers

The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the highest award given to local volunteer groups across the UK, is open for nominations. This annual award recognises and rewards excellence in voluntary activities carried out by groups in the community.  Anyone in the UK can nominate a group. The deadline for nominations to the 2017 Awards is 16th September 2016.

New ministers in Teresa May's Government

Theresa May’s reshuffle following her appointment as Prime Minister included a number of new appointments relevant to the VAWG field. Amber Rudd replaces Theresa May as Home Secretary. Sarah Newton is Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Vulnerability, Safeguarding and Countering Extremism – a newly created post.

Free training on asylum support system

Asylum Support Appeals Project (ASAP) is able to offer free, bespoke training around the UK on the asylum support system, especially to women’s organisations (particularly domestic violence services) and to other services which predominantly support women. This includes health professionals such as midwives and health visitors. Go to the website for further information.
