The 2015 to 2016 Crime Survey for England and Wales ran for the first time a module of questions asking adults whether they were abused as a child. The analyses of these questions covering psychological, physical, and sexual abuse as a child, are published within the report.
The Office for National Statistics has published a report on abuse during childhood with findings from its Crime Survey for England and Wales for the year ending March 2016. For the first time the Survey asked adults whether they were abused as a child.
The Guardian reports on figures compiled by Plan International UK, which indicate that numbers of sexual offences in UK schools have risen from 719 in 2011-12 to 1,955 in 2014-15.
The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the highest award given to local volunteer groups across the UK, is open for nominations. This annual award recognises and rewards excellence in voluntary activities carried out by groups in the community. Anyone in the UK can nominate a group. The deadline for nominations to the 2017 Awards is 16th September 2016.

Sarah Newton is Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Vulnerability, Safeguarding and Countering Extremism – a newly created post.
Asylum Support Appeals Project (ASAP) is able to offer free, bespoke training around the UK on the asylum support system, especially to women’s organisations (particularly domestic violence services) and to other services which predominantly support women.
