Women, retirement and changes to the state pension: unison bridges to learning event

Date and time:

Tuesday, June 5, 2018 - 09:30 to 12:30

FENTON ROOM Riverside Stadium, Middlesbrough TS3 6RS

Are you a woman approaching retirement age? Are you having to work longer than you anticipated? Do you know what your pension entitlements are?

UNISON Bridges to Learning is hosting an event aimed at informing you about how changes in the state pension will impact on your retirement age.

The state pension is not only changing because the retirement age is being equalised between men and women. The basic state pension is also changing and this has particular impact on women in the public sector who
may have had many years of contracted out contributions.

Our event will address these issues: a pensions expert from UNISON will help you work out your state pension entitlement date if you don’t already know it, and explain how changes to the basic state pension and to public sector pension schemes will affect you. There will also be a speaker from the WASPI campaign (Women Against State Pension Inequality) to talk about how they are campaigning for proper pensions for women affected by the changes.

The conference is sponsored by Bridges to Learning: a partnership between UNISON, The Open University and The WEA; we aim to develop and deliver learning progression pathways for UNISON members and potential members in health, social care and education.

The conference is FREE to UNISON members Non members welcome (cost £10 payable on the day).
