Date and time:

Wednesday, November 7, 2018 - 12:00 to 16:00

The Durham Centre, Belmont Industrial Estate, DH1 1TN

The FREE ‘Approaches to Tackling Domestic Abuse’ event is organised by Northumbria University. Commissioners, statutory and third sector organisations, whose remit includes tackling domestic abuse, will find the event relevant, as will academics researching domestic abuse.

The event has been funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, as part of its 2018 Festival of Social Science - a week-long celebration of the social sciences and social science research, taking place from 3-10 November across the UK, with free to attend events suitable for all ages and levels of interest. The ‘Approaches to Tackling Domestic Abuse’ will draw on example projects that are part of the Home Office Funded Police Transformation Project, a ‘Whole Systems Approach’ to tackle domestic abuse.

The event aims to enable those working in a range of organisations and roles to hear about (and discuss) example projects (and associated research and monitoring data) designed to better tackle domestic abuse. It will also provide an opportunity to consider how to best respond to the challenges created by domestic abuse and interventions to tackle it.
The event includes:
 An introduction from Dame Vera Baird (Police and Crime Commissioner, Northumbria Police)
 Presentations about:
 The Whole Systems Approach
 Operation Kyleford (Domestic Violence Support and Assistance Car)
