Tyneside Rape Crisis Centre is running a 12  session closed group for women survivors of  sexual violence. Launch and 1st Year Celebration of GRACE, the Northumberland Sexual Violence Project

There will be opportunity for networking and information gathering, a light buffet lunch and some guest speakers. Aspiring Authors  – 16 to 18 August 2010


A Residential Master Class with best Selling author Mavis Cheek.16th to 18th August 2010 Mavis is back at Hillcroft where she developed her early writing skills and inspiration to become an Author. You will learn first hand how to get more out of novel writing, and all the many varied aspects of invention and shaping that goes into a book.This 3 day residential workshop is designed for those of youwho have started writing and want to go that extra mile to give you confidence in your abilities to write imaginatively and to guide you towards new skills in writing creatively. It will look at the various constituents of good fiction writing – scene setting, character, dialogue (this is usually thought to be the hardest thing to write and you should, by the end of the course, realise that it is not so hard after all), the use of metaphor and description to set mood, turning points, whatthe story is about. This not to be missed residential workshop will be fun, exciting and above all will help you take that next step toward writingyour own novel.

Breast Cancer Survival Trust (BCST) fundraising week - 2nd August to 8th August 2010

BCST is a North East based charity that is entirely run by volunteers and uses every penny of funds raised to give grants to women affected by Breast Cancer for anything that would make them feel better/ improve the quality of their lives.  Please organise a fundraising event - A coffee morning, a table top sale, a cake bake, a BBQ, a teddy bear's picnic, sponsored walk, raffle, bingo session etc. etc. Anything really would help BCST to keep awarding small grants to women and their families for that little treat which makes all the difference to their quality of life for more information about the Breast Cancer Survival Trust and the fund raising week contact Southwick Neighbourhood Youth Project - 0191 5480828

Carnival of Cultural Feminist Activism 2011, 3-5 March 2011 Centre for Women's Studies, University of York

A three-day international conference and festival of academic papers, presentations, performance, exhibitions & workshops - The event is designed to generate action as well as debate, and to inspire, celebrate & challenge understandings of women, grassroots art & politics.

We ask: can feminist art change the world and, if so, how? And we invite responses from activists, artists and academics. Deadline for proposals: 31 October 2010.
